Let's join a cult vol. 1: advanced night repair serum

"Cult favorite". It's a phrase used to describe products which have achieved an absurdly large following. "Holy grail", "ride or die", etc. These products have stood the test of time and can be found in the medicine cabinets of all demographics. This new blog series will catalog my testings of "cult favorite" products and my thoughts on them. First up: Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II.

Main product claims: Claims to be the #1 serum in the entire US (according to NPD Group / U.S. Prestige Beauty Dept/Specialty in-store and online, skincare, 12-month unit sales as of December 2017). Claims to be ideal for all skin types (normal, oily, combination, sensitive, dry) and all ethnicities. This serum promises to give the user radiant, younger looking skin, to reduce signs of aging, boost hydration, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and reveal "smoother, stronger" skin.

Ingredients: Advanced Night Repr Sync Rec Cmp11 Division: El (Estee Lauder)Ingredients: Water\Aqua\Eau , Bifida Ferment Lysate , Methyl Gluceth-20 , Peg-75 , Bis-Peg-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane , Butylene Glycol , Propanediol , Cola Acuminata (Kola) Seed Extract , Hydrolyzed Algin , Pantethine , Caffeine , Lecithin , Tripeptide-32 , Ethylhexylglycerin , Sodium Rna , Bisabolol , Glycereth-26 , Squalane , Sodium Hyaluronate , Oleth-3 Phosphate , Caprylyl Glycol , Lactobacillus Ferment , Oleth-3 , Oleth-5 , Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) , Yeast Extract\Faex\Extrait De Levure , Choleth-24 , Hydrogenated Lecithin , Ceteth-24 , Tocopheryl Acetate , Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate , Hexylene Glycol , Carbomer , Triethanolamine , Trisodium Edta , Bht , Xanthan Gum , Phenoxyethanol , Red 4 (Ci 14700) , Yellow 5 (Ci 19140)

Instructed Use: Nightly, apply to clean skin on face and neck before moisturizer.

Sensory (sight, smell, touch, etc.): Milky/translucent gel like serum. Non oily (formula is oil free). No distinct smell (formula is fragrance free). Non sticky.

First impression: The serum sank into my skin immediately. I know I've said this before about products but this one is absurdly quick-absorbing. Usually I can put a product on my skin and have time to massage it in but by the time I've evenly spread this all over it will have basically already absorbed and no extra massaging is needed. It does not leave any discernible residue and my skin has no adverse side effects to indicate any allergies (no redness or sudden breakouts). The morning after using my skin seems bright and hydrated. I have noticed every time I've used this product I've woken up to my nose pores seemingly purging oil.I do not know if this is a good thing. I cannot tell if the serum is helping purge my pores of excess oil or if is encouraging it to overproduce oil. Overall I've been enjoying the product and think it agrees with my skin. I will continue use and update this post with any further impressions.

Length of use before review written: 1 week. I know, waaaaay too early to really have a solid impression but I haven't blogged in a while and I've had the product shots on deck since last week. I'll do better next time.

Join the cult?: Maybe. Too early to tell. I'll probably just go to the orientation and see if they have good snacks.

xx,

Claire
